The water level in the Godavari River has been increasing at Bhadrachalam in Kothagudem district due to heavy rains in its upper catchment area over the past few days.

The water level was at 34.60 feet at 12 noon on Saturday and reached 35.40 feet at 6 pm with a discharge of six lakh cusecs. The Taliperu project in Cherla mandal was also receiving huge inflows.

Kinnerasani project officials informed that two gates of the



project would be lifted at 10 pm to release excess water downstream and asked the villagers on the banks of the stream to be alert.

Several mandals in erstwhile Khammam district received light to heavy rain during the past 24 hours. In Kothagudem district, Yellandu received 61 mm rainfall, Tekulapally 59 mm, Paloncha received 54.5 mm and Chunchupally received 49.3 mm rainfall. In Khammam Singareni mandal received 47.8 mm rainfall and Kamepalli received 34.6 mm rainfall.
