The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has decided to reintroduce biometric attendance system (BAS) in all 30 circles in the city limits from February 1.

According to GHMC official, the GHMC with an aim to put an end to high-level corruption in sanitation wing had decided to register their attendance through BAS.

He said lower-rung officials, who were hand in glove with the staff on ground had been making fake muster role entries. He even said the Sanitary Field Assistants (SFA) in collusion with Assistant Medical Officers for Health (AMOHs) had been registering fake attendance and even withdrawing salaries in the name of those employees who were absent.A



senior GHMC official told that the lower-rung officials had been registering about 30 per cent fake attendance on daily basis. He said some had even recruited their family members with the fake names.

The official said the BAS was aimed at putting an end to such irregularities and the system would be fully come into effect by February 5. He said the civic body had entered into an agreement with a Delhi-based private firm for supply, installation and maintenance of the biometric systems.

The GHMC had taken the thumb impressions of 2,626 sanitation groups, 2,674 regular workers, 18,382 contract workers, 46 sanitary supervisors, 305 sanitary jawans and 948 SFAs.
