The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is planning to plant one crore saplings across the city this year as a part of the Telangana Haritha Haram (TKHH) programme.

“If the city receives early rains then the plantations will start in the month of June. But if there is a dearth of rainfall the programme might be postponed to July ,“ said Raghu Prasad, additional commissioner, (Urban Biodiversity department) GHMC, on Tuesday .

Out the one crore saplings more than 97 per cent of them are home stead plants that will be distributed to residents and the rest of them will be planted across Hyderabad. “We are distributing an additional 46 species



of home stead plants to the residents and colony associations compared to the precious year.Lemon Grass, Bush Plants and Akalipa are a few of them,“ said Damodar V , director of the department.

From the total count of saplings, more than 60,000 will be planted in schools, colleges and government offices while the remaining will be planted along the road sides, highways and pathways. Tikoma, Neem, Ficus and Pogada are some of the species of plants that will used as part of this green programme.

The GHMC has also decided to plant some saplings in open spaces and lakes. They have kept aside more than 50,000 plants for green ways.
