The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has decided to launch Telangana Sishu Aadhaar project in 25 identified hospitals from this month wherein newborn babies would be issued Aadhaar card, birth certificate and birth registration at the hospital free of cost.
For implementation of this project, hospital managements have to set up their own infrastructure and make arrangements at their level for issuing certificates.
GHMC additional commissioner Surendra Mohan, who convened a meeting on Wednesday with the managements of government and private hospitals at GHMC office, said the project yielded good results at Petla Burj Government Maternity Hospital, where it was introduced on a pilot basis. Mohan said the vision of government was to provide necessary certificates to newborn child immediately after birth and

also push them to the digital locker.
“This is first of its kind initiative where government is issuing certificate to a newborn child. This is going to be a real government to citizens,” he said. Further, babies born in government hospitals would be Aadhaar-enrolled and their birth certificate will be issued within seven days,” he said.
The project would be implemented with the support of health department, GHMC, ITE&C, UIDAI RO–Telangana & CSC SPV.
The new move by the government would also help the health department to monitor all welfare and health-related benefits to an infant, tracking the child from birth to immunisation and till school admission. Besides, it would seek to serve as a database of children for timely and assured delivery of services, the GHMC official said.
