For the first time, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has launched a pilot project in Circle-12 using robotic technology for stormwater drain cleaning. Advanced robotic machines equipped with high-resolution CCTV cameras have been deployed at major road crossings to detect blockages and carry out precise cleaning.
The technology was adopted to clean stormwater drains in Hyderabad, aiming to tackle flooding and drainage issues caused by garbage and debris accumulation, a press release
said.
GHMC Chief Engineer (Maintenance) Sahadev Ratnakar inspected the cleaning operation on Wednesday night at the NMDC Junction, Mehdipatnam, where the robotic machines were put to use.
Officials said the advantages of this technology include identification of blockages through CCTV cameras, desilting water stagnation points, improving drainage, and ensuring safety during operations. If the pilot proves effective, GHMC plans to extend robotic technology across all its circles.
