Hyderabad secured the sixth rank, the city’s highest-ever, in the Swachh Survekshan (Sanitation Survey) rankings, from among over 4,500 cities nationwide.
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) received the State Level Award as the most promising clean city of Telangana.
Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal presented the award to GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan at the Swachh Survekshan 2024 Awards ceremony at Vigyan Bhawan, Delhi, on Thursday.
As part of the survey, the GHMC applied for
a ‘7 Star’ rating under the Star Rating of Garbage-Free Cities Certification and Water Recertification in the Open Defecation Free (ODF) category for Swachh Survekshan 2024.
According to the ‘City Report Card’ released by the GHMC, the civic body achieved 100 per cent performance in door-to-door collection of waste, waste generation, remediation of dump sites, and cleanliness of residential areas, market areas, water bodies, and toilets.
“The GHMC, however, achieved 93 per cent only in source segregation,” added the report card.
