The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Election Authority instructed the candidates who contested the municipal corporation polls to file their final returns of election expenditure by January 17.

GHMC elections were held on December 1 and the results were declared on December 4. The period of 45 days from the date of declaration of results will expire on January 17 and in case of Neredmet division, the 45 days stipulated time expires on January 22.

After receipt of election expenditure by the contesting candidates, the Election Authority of the GHMC would get the accounts scrutinised by the election expenditure observers. The Election Commission had limited the election expenditure for each contesting candidate to Rs 5 lakh.

Failure to lodge the account of election expenditure will result in the cessation to hold office, if elected and also the candidate will be disqualified for a period of three years to contest any election held under the GHMC Act.
