The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has issued notices pertaining to fire safety to 532 coaching centres across the city, in order to prevent Surat-like fire accidents.

Inspections would be carried in buildings less than 15 meters in height across the city, to take stock of the fire safety measures, Commissioner M. Dana Kishore said at a review meeting here on Monday.

He asked the Enforcement and Vigilance Wing to take up inspections at all the coaching centres, which largely exist in 10 to 15 circles in the city.

Mr. Kishore disclosed that two coaching centres that he

had personally inspected recently lacked any fire safety equipment. Considering that each coaching institute has a student strength of at least 300, fire safety should be given importance, he said.

The Commissioner has also asked the officials to take up removal of unauthorised bill boards on footpaths.

He asked the deputy commissioners to take up a special drive in this regard throughout the week.

Special monsoon teams, which have been formed one per ward, have been instructed to remove plastic waste and construction debris from the roads.
