The food safety officers of the GHMC on Tuesday inspected 75 hospital kitchens in the city and lifted 14 samples to be sent to the State Food Laboratory, Nacharam, Hyderabad for analysis.

Following instructions of the GHMC Commissioner, the food safety officers are conducting surprise inspections of kitchens existing in the hospitals in their circle jurisdiction. During the inspections, the managements of hospital kitchens were asked to maintain the hygiene standards in preparation of the food items, supply of food items and also proper maintenance of the



kitchen premises.

On finding violation of Food Safety & Standards Act, 2006 and Rules & Regulations, 2011 notices would be issued for rectification of defects and in case of any major violation, adjudication will be filed before the Adjudication Officers concerned.

The common deviations noticed during inspection of hospital canteens included lack of dedicated storage area, unclean exhaust, food articles in the refrigerator kept uncovered and unlabelled, food articles stored on ground and dustbins kept uncovered, a press release said.
