The early bird scheme of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) for property tax payments continues to elicit good response from tax payers.

Till Tuesday, it collected Rs 230 crore towards property tax. As part of the scheme, the corporation is offering a five percent discount on property tax to building owners, who pay before April 30.

Last financial year, under the early bird scheme (April 1 to 30), the GHMC collected Rs 213 crore and this year the collections have already increased by Rs 17



crore with five days left for the scheme to be closed.The civic body on Tuesday collected over Rs 20 crore of which the management of District Hospital in King Koti paid Rs 2.23 crore.

There are about 14 lakh households in the city. Of these, 11 lakh are estimated to be residential structures, 2.30 lakh commercial structures and the rest a mix of both. Authorities said the scheme is applicable for payment of property tax for the current year only and not for arrears accumulating from the previous years.
