The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Monday caught red-handed the GHMC Kapra Circle-I deputy executive engineer P Mahalakshmi and sanitary field assistant Y Vijay Kumar when they allegedly demanded and accepted a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a complainant A Srinivas of Mallapur, to ensure that his mother, Salamma, continued to work as a sweeper.

Salamma got the sweeper job on compassionate grounds after the death of her husband. The bribe was accepted near a

function hall at Mallapur crossroads here. The tainted amount of Rs 20,000 was recovered from the possession of Mahalakshmi.

The officials produced Mahalakshmi and Vijaya Kumar before the special court for ACB cases which remanded them to judicial custody. In case of demand of bribe by any employee of GHMC or any other public servant, the public can contact ACB’s toll free number -1064 – for action as per law.
