Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) personnel in a special drive cleared encroachments from footpaths around the Secunderabad Railway Station area on Saturday, as per the directions of the Telangana High Court orders to identify and remove footpath encroachments across the city and clear space for pedestrians.
The drive targeted encroachments by small establishments and other illegal constructions. Officials used excavators
to dismantle and remove the illegal structures. The operation, conducted with the support of local police, resulted in the removal of dozens of unauthorised sheds and shops.
It may be recollected that the Telangana High Court in February directed the GHMC to identify and remove footpath encroachments across the city, submit a compliance report to the registry within three months, and ensure that no fresh violations are permitted.
