The GHMC has cancelled the occupancy certificate and trade licence of a furniture showroom in Nampally in which a massive fire broke out and killed five persons on January 24.

While various government agencies were investigating the fire accident, the GHMC cancelled the trade licence and occupancy certificate of the furniture showroom and restricted it from starting business anywhere within GHMC limits, said Khairatabad deputy commissioner B

Srinivasulu.

Meanwhile, the Hydraa gave a one-month reprieve to shops and commercial complexes that did not comply with fire safety regulations, before initiating any seizures.

Shopkeepers were advised to avoid storing large quantities of flammable materials such as clothes, plastic items, paint, oil, chemical containers, acid, tyres, fibre items and foam.

Also, families of watchmen should not reside in cellars and canteens for cooking should not be set up, Hydraa warned.
