The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has bagged the Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration for the progress it has made in the implementation of the Telangana government’s 2BHK housing scheme that dovetails with Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.

GHMC commissioner B Janardhan Reddy will be receiving the award on April 21 at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi on the occasion of National Civil Services Day.

The news had a cheerful municipal administration and urban development (MA&UD) minister K Taraka Rama Rao congratulate the civic body for its feat. “Many congratulations to team @GHMConline lead by @ Bonthuramohan @CommsionerGHMC on winning PM award. No time to rest on laurels as we have lots more to do,” KTR tweeted.

commissioner, meanwhile, attributed the achievement to the civic body’s team work and inclusive approach. “This award will boost our morale and encourage us to work harder in the future. I congratulate the entire GHMC team,” Reddy said.

The civic body has mobilised about 600 acres of land for the project and is constructing one lakh 2BHK houses within its limits.As per GHMC records, around 5,000 houses have already been completely constructed and handed over to beneficiaries at Singam Cheruvu, Nacharam.

GHMC, which has expedited its 2BHK houses construction, proposes to construct another 65,000 houses by December this year with the remaining 30,000 houses to be completed by March 2019 as against the initial deadline of July 2018.
