Gen Z leads surge in voter enrolment; 4.40 lakh new applications filed in Telangana

Young and eligible citizens, particularly the Gen Z, are filling out the Form-6, an application for enrolment of new electors, during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. 

A staggering 4.40 lakh new applications (Form 6 – enrolment of new electors), with most from the Gen Z, have been registered from the State with the Election Commission of India, seeking voter identity card. In addition to locals, 6,327 overseas Indians registered for the voter ID by filing Form 6A with the ECI.

Young electors who have attained 18 years of age on or before October 1, 2026, have been encouraged to apply through Form-6, along with the prescribed declaration. However, they also need to



submit their parents’ SIR 2002 details and link them accordingly.

Those young and eligible individuals who attain the age eligibility and apply on or before October 1, 2026, will be included in the final electoral list. However, the registration for voter identification cards is a year-long process where individuals who attain eligibility can register with the ECI.

“There is no fixed deadline for registration for young individuals. It is a yearlong process. However, if an individual wants to be included in the final electoral roll, they need to attain the eligibility and apply on or before October 1. The electoral roll gets updated from time to time. We have received all Form-6As online,” sources said.
