In a rare medical case, doctors at Gandhi Hospital successfully removed a blade ingested by a 36-year-old man without resorting to endoscopy.
The patient, identified as Riyuzuddin Pasha, reportedly swallowed the blade due to mental distress. He approached the hospital after 48 hours of the incident, where medical investigations confirmed the presence of the blade in his gastrointestinal tract.
Instead of
opting for immediate surgical intervention, the medical team followed conservative management by administering intravenous fluids and medication to protect the stomach lining. Mental health support was also arranged for the patient.
The non-invasive treatment proved effective, as the patient managed to pass the blade without any major complication. He was later discharged in stable condition and referred for psychiatric counselling.
