Union Surface Transport Minister Nithin Gadkari today said national development was possible only through better road connectivity and infrastructure facilities. The Centre has allotted Rs 41000 cr for Telangana to develop national highways.

The Union minister laid foundation stone for expansion of 163rd national highway at Madikonda in Warnagal district and nationlised Eturunagaram bridge along with Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, Roads & Buildings Minister Thummala Nageshwar Rao and others.

Gadkari, who was here to lay foundation stone for a four-lane road between Yadadri and Warangal (99 km), said a total of 1670-km new national highways would be built in Telangana State at a cost of Rs 16,500 crore. He said the Telangana government has been advised to prepare DPR for these works. The Union government sanctioned Rs 900 crore for development of roads under annual plan for 2015-16 in Telangana.



initial; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); background-repeat: initial;">Gadkari said DPR for development of 486 km of national highways are in progress for which Rs 5000 crore would be spent. The work for improvement of 104km road between Nakrekal to Thanamcherla (71 km) and Jamandlapalli to Mangalwaripet (33 km) of NH-365 would be taken up in next six months, he said.

Gadkari said, “Uuless we have better roads, we cannot expect rapid growth and simultaneous development”. The Centre has given its nod to KCR’s urge for the roads and said to spend Rs 16,500 cr for express highways to connecting Hyderabad and Bengaluru and also Hyderabad and Vijayawada, he said. He also said Bhadrachalam and Kautala road will be developed into a national highway. Assuring to help Telangana develop in all sectors, Gadkari sought the State government’s a report to develop Godavari Water Transport system.

Later, extending thanks to the Centre, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao said Telangana people will remember the name of Nithin Gadkari for 1800-km roads that need Rs 41,000 cr. Stating that Warangal is potential big city after Hyderabad to develop, he said the Centre sanctioned a Sainik School to it. He asked the Union minister to build more railway bridges in Telangana and restart Cement Corporation of India unit in the city where the State will construct a textile park.
