For the first time in a government hospital in Telangana, an allergy clinic providing treatment for patients with allergies, was inaugurated at Chest Hospital here on Wednesday.

The exclusive allergy clinic, which was inaugurated by Director of Medical Education (DME) Dr K Ramesh Reddy, will offer outpatient facilities for patients with a host of adverse reactions to allergens including chemical, pollen-related, environmental etc.

Senior officials said that the stress would be to identify the source of the allergies and accordingly advise the patients on drugs for treatment.
Allergies are an adverse immune reaction of the body to allergens. Due to the broad range of allergens, the symptoms of allergies also

range broadly from itching, rashes, swelling, wheezing to more complicated health issues like high-grade fever and life-threatening allergic reactions known as anaphylaxis.

Since the subject of allergies is quite broad, speciality doctors from dermatology, pulmonology and general medicine are required for patients. “We can’t afford to have three to four specialists at the outpatient of allergy clinics.

To address this difficulty, senior pulmonologists were given special training and certification on handling allergy cases and they will be available for free consultation at the allergy clinic,” Superintendent, Chest Hospital, Dr Mahabub Khan, said.
