As part of the continued searches on those drawing water illegally, the vigilance wing of Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) on Thursday registered nine cases in Red Hills.

Nine residents in Red Hills division No. 4 had taken a total of 15 unauthorised water connections without obtaining prior permission from the HMWS&SB, according to officials.

During investigation, the board’s vigilance wing disconnected the illegal connections and registered criminal cases against all nine individuals.

Acting on the directions of HMWS&SB managing director Ashok Reddy, vigilance officials have

initiated strict action against illegal water connections in the city and registered criminal cases against them.

According to officials, the action was taken in the Red Hills low-level section under O&M Division No. 4, where the GHMC recently undertook new road construction works in the Seetharambagh area.

Taking advantage of the situation, nine households despite already having authorised connections illegally drew water connections directly from the Water Board’s supply pipeline.

Board officials warned that anyone found obtaining water or sewerage connections without official approval would face criminal prosecution.
