Karimnagar Farmers staged a maha dharna and rasta roko in Veenavanka on Monday, demanding the immediate supply of urea.

With no urea stocks available in fertiliser shops or Agros outlets, farmers have been approaching the Narsingapur cooperative society for supplies. On Monday, about 600 farmers gathered at the society godown after learning that 470 bags of urea had arrived.

Society officials informed them that the bags would be given only to those who had registered with the

society on August 9 and asked others to collect urea from the Veenavanka society.

Enraged over the decision, farmers, who had been waiting for urea for a fortnight, blocked the Jammikunta–Karimnagar road in Veenavanka, bringing traffic to a standstill for some time.

Karimnagar Police officers rushed to the spot and cleared the road after convincing the agitating ryots to call off their protest. The 470 bags were later distributed to 235 farmers amid police protection.
