A fake voter list carrying the names and photographs of popular actors Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Tamannaah Bhatia, and Rakul Preet Singh has surfaced on social media, prompting police action in Hyderabad.
The Madhura Nagar Police registered a case on Thursday after election officials confirmed that the viral entries were fabricated using doctored images and forged voter ID details.
According to the complaint filed by Assistant Electoral Registration Officer Syed Yahiya Kamal, the posts falsely claimed that the actors were registered voters at the same address in Hyderabad, using manipulated Electors Photo Identity Card (EPIC) numbers. Authorities said the misinformation appeared to be part of a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and misuse official electoral information.
A case has been
registered under Sections 336(4)( forgery with the intent to harm another's reputation) and 353(1)(C) (public mischief) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police have begun tracing the origin of the posts and identifying those responsible for circulating them.
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), in a statement, warned that sharing or forwarding unverified information could invite legal action. “Certain individuals are spreading false information, alleging that film actors were included in electoral rolls with modified photographs and invalid EPIC numbers,” it said.
The incident comes just weeks ahead of the Jubilee Hills Assembly bypoll scheduled for November 11, with counting on November 14. Officials urged voters to rely only on verified information from the Election Commission’s official platforms.
