Employee Gets 5-Year Jail Term in POCSO Case in Hyderabad

A local court here has sentenced a 27-year-old private employee V Manikanta to five years simple imprisonment in connection with a case registered against him under provisions of POCSO Act. 

The court has also imposed a fine of Rs.9000 on him. On June 4, 2023 at 11.30 am, the mother of an 11-year-old girl lodged a complaint with the Musheerabad police stating that, for the past few days, the accused, who is their neighbor, had been behaving inappropriately with the victim.

He used to talk to her in an improper manner, pull her hair, and tease her by pulling her hands and legs. He also used to come close to her and make inappropriate comments about her



clothes, asking why she was wearing shorts and saying that she should remove her clothes and roam around without them. He also used to touch her cheeks. 

The complaint was forwarded to Bharosa centre for recording the victim’s statement. The Bharosa team provided a range of counselling techniques to assist the victim and her family. 

Additionally, they offered moral and emotional support through consistent follow-up sessions and involvement in workshops. The family was exceedingly happy to hear about the conviction. Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar appreciated the efforts of all stakeholders for their efforts and coordination.
