Telangana is set to witness another round of elections with the Election Commission of India announcing the schedule for biennial Rajya Sabha polls to fill two seats from the State falling vacant in April.
The terms of sitting members Abhishek Manu Singhvi and KR Suresh Reddy will end on April 9, necessitating elections to the Upper House from the State.
As part of a larger exercise covering 37 Rajya Sabha seats across 10 states, the Commission released the notification on Wednesday.
KR Suresh Reddy is currently the BRS Parliamentary Party leader, while Singhvi was elected to the
seat by the Congress replacing K Keshava Rao who resigned after joining the Congress.
According to the schedule, the notification will be issued on February 26, 2026. The last date for filing nominations is March 5, scrutiny will take place on March 6, and the final date for withdrawal of candidature is March 9. Polling will be held on March 16 between 9 am and 4 pm, with counting scheduled for 5 pm the same day.
Apart from Telangana (2 seats), elections will also be held in Maharashtra (7), Tamil Nadu (6), West Bengal (5), Bihar (5), Odisha (4), Assam (3), Chhattisgarh (2), Haryana (2) and Himachal Pradesh (1).
