A donor heart from a brain-dead patient was transported from Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), Punjagutta to Asian Institute of Gastroenterology (AIG), Gachibowli for organ transplantation, in just 9 minutes, thanks to a special green channel that was created by Hyderabad traffic police between 10 am and 11 am on Thursday morning, officials said.

The ambulance carrying the donor heart along with NIMS organ donation officials covered the distance of nearly 11 kilometers within 9 minutes and reached AIG, Gachibowli. This is the first heart transplantation being taken-up at AIG Hospitals, state-run Jeevandan organ donation officials said.
