Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy was stopped by Delhi Police on Wednesday while he was proceeding towards Barakhamba Road police station to express solidarity with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who was detained during protests against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Speaking outside the police station, Revanth Reddy demanded the withdrawal of the SIR and the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. He said the Congress would continue its fight under Rahul Gandhi’s leadership. He said
the police action against Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi indicated the intolerance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Comparing the campaign to the “Simon Go Back” movement, the Chief Minister said the Opposition was now raising the slogan “SIR Go Back”. After Central agencies such as the ED and CBI, he alleged that the BJP-led Central government was using the Election Commission against the Opposition. He claimed that lakhs of votes had been deleted across the country.
