Cyberabad man held under PD Act for allegedly cheating women

The Cyberabad Police have detained a 33-year-old man under the Preventive Detention (PD) Act for allegedly cheating women after posing as a wealthy NRI on matrimonial websites.

The suspect, M Venkata Kameshu alias Karthik Reddy, a B. Tech graduate from Andhra Pradesh, is linked to 19 cheating cases registered since 2021.

He allegedly created fake matrimonial profiles, projected himself as a well-settled NRI, and gained women’s trust by promising



marriage. After establishing contact through matrimonial sites, WhatsApp and Instagram, he allegedly sought money citing various emergencies.

Police said he also obtained victims’ bank details, credit card information and OTPs, which were allegedly misused for unauthorised transactions and online betting.

Cyberabad Police Commissioner M Ramesh invoked the PD Act and ordered his detention at Central Prison, Cherlapalli, to prevent further alleged cheating offences.
