Burglars broke into an Urban Primary Health Centre at Kalikhabar in the old city and decamped with 41 vials of Covishield and Covaxin on Sunday.

According to the police, the burglars broke open the main door of the UPHC Jambagh on the Kalikhabar road under the Mirchowk police station limits and entered the premises. They are said to have found the medicine storage room and stolen 24 vials of Covishield, 17 vials of Covaxin and a few other medicines kept in the cupboard. The thieves also took away two computers, stationery items and other articles.

They did not stop with that. While on their way out, they also removed the tyres of an auto-rickshaw that was parked on the UPHC premises and took them away.

The auto was used

by the staff to move around in the locality for door to door immunization of children.

The burglary came to light on Monday morning when the medical staff came to the UPHC centre and noticed that the lock on the main door was broken. On being alerted, the Mirchowk police inspected the spot and called in a CLUES team which collected fingerprints from some articles.

The staff told the police that there was no watchman at the centre and as a regular practice, they locked the door at the end of the day. The police suspect that it being a Sunday and the hospital being closed, the burglars had ample time to carry out the crime.

The police are now analyzing footage from surveillance cameras in the area to identify the burglars.
