A police constable belonging to Andhra Pradesh was injured in an alleged accidental misfire incident at the Special Armed Reserve Central Police Lines in Amberpet on Monday.
Police said the single bullet, which injured the constable’s chest, was accidentally fired from his own rifle. He was treated immediately, and his condition was stable.
The injured constable was identified as
Govardhan Reddy, a native of Andhra Pradesh and an Armed Reserve constable.
According to the police, Govardhan was on duty when the firearm in his hand suddenly went off, with the sound of the gunshot triggering panic on its premises.
“He was on duty with the rifle in his hand and is said to have accidentally pressed the trigger. One bullet was released and it pierced his chest,” police said.
