Congress turning Indiramma Housing Scheme into fraud: BRS leader Krishank

BRS spokesperson Manne Krishank slammed the Congress government for allegedly cheating people by promising free houses to the poor under the Indiramma Housing Scheme before the Assembly elections and now forcing beneficiaries to spend lakhs of rupees. He alleged that apart from collecting Rs 10,000 for applications, the government was asking beneficiaries to contribute Rs 6 lakh for LIG (low-income group) housing in Hyderabad.

He demanded that the government immediately fulfil its promise to construct 6,000 Indiramma houses in the Secunderabad Cantonment Assembly constituency, made during the by-election campaign.

In a statement, Krishank questioned the government’s intent, asking whether the scheme was meant to provide welfare or run a real estate business. He said making poor families pay



lakhs of rupees after promising free houses amounted to a betrayal of public trust. He also alleged that the Telangana Congress was ruining the legacy of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, after whom the scheme was named.

Pointing out that the government had already presented its third State Budget, he questioned when the promised houses would actually be completed, with only one regular State Budget and one Vote-on-Account Budget remaining before the next Assembly elections.

Stating that public anger was growing over the Congress government’s failure to fulfil its election promises, Krishank said the party would have no moral right to seek votes in the upcoming Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections if it failed to complete and hand over even a single Indiramma house before then.
