Congress neglected urban development, will suffer poll setback, says KTR

Stating that the Congress government had neglected development in urban areas, BRS working president KT Rama Rao said people would teach the party a lesson in the forthcoming municipal elections.

Development had taken a back seat in municipalities and municipal corporations, with the Congress government failing to release sufficient funds over the last two years even for basic works, let alone development projects, he said while speaking at a meeting with party leaders from Khammam and Nizamabad districts here on Saturday to prepare for the municipal elections.

“Towns and cities across the State have been pushed into a crisis in the last two years. Congress leaders should seek votes by sharing details of funds allotted to urban areas and development in the last two years,” Rama Rao demanded, adding that people in urban areas were fuming



at the Congress. Administration in cities had collapsed and residents were facing difficulties, including lack of sanitation in colonies, he said.

“Save for re-inaugurating already operational development programmes, the Congress government has not done anything substantial. Infrastructure projects, construction of community halls, model markets and road development have all come to a standstill due to lack of funds,” Rama Rao said.

Though BRS-backed candidates had emerged victorious in the gram panchayat elections, party leaders should strive for even better results in the municipal polls, he added.

Senior leader and former Minister T Harish Rao stressed that party leaders should work collectively to secure a thumping victory in the elections and also discussed strategies to be followed for the municipal polls.
