A computer awareness programme was held at the Government School for the Visually Impaired in Darulshifa on Monday.
Dr K Srinivas Reddy, lecturer at the National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Visual Disabilities (NIEPVD), Dehradun, was the chief guest.
Addressing the students, Dr Reddy highlighted the importance of special education and how advancements in education, technology, and vocational training can help visually impaired students achieve independence and success. He
said that with effective use of technology, visual impairment need not be a barrier to growth.
He appreciated the State government’s initiative to introduce computer education at the school, saying it was proving highly beneficial. He urged students to make full use of the facilities.
Dr Reddy also acknowledged the efforts of teachers and said that barrier-free infrastructure in government schools and offices would help people with disabilities participate fully in social and public life.
