Cockroaches, rat faeces found as TG SAFE acts against 11 Hyderabad eateries

The Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs (TG SAFE) has suspended the FSSAI licences of 11 restaurants in Madhapur, Hitec City and Gachibowli, directing them to immediately stop operations following inspections that found serious food safety and hygiene violations.

Ten enforcement teams comprising Food Safety Officers and police personnel inspected 20 establishments on September 26 as part of a special drive.

Officials reported cockroach and rodent infestations, rat faeces, expired and spoiled food, fungal contamination, unhygienic kitchens, improper food storage, clogged drains and poor hygiene at several establishments.

said 21 food samples were collected on suspicion of adulteration.

Improvement notices will be issued to six establishments, including Rameshwaram Cafe at Madhapur, Hotel Shadab at Gachibowli and Shah Ghouse Hotel and Restaurant at Gachibowli. Show-cause notices will be served on White Elephant Food Works (63 Degrees Modern Regional Buffet), Minerva Grand and Hotel Avasa, with further action, including penalties, to follow.

Among the violations recorded were expired food articles, contaminated vegetables, poor refrigeration practices, inadequate pest control, missing water and food-handler health records, dirty utensils, greasy exhausts, damaged flooring and drainage problems.
