City lakes brim as monsoon boosts water levels across Hyderabad

From Fox Sagar Lake, Saroornagar Lake, Pragathinagar Lake, Gopi Cheruvu, Buthukamma Kunta to Ameenpur Lake, these lakes have registered good inflows in recent days.

Mission Kakatiya initiated to rejuvenate the lakes by the previous BRS government appears to have contributed to the water bodies gaining good water levels this monsoon. Residents in colonies abutting the water bodies hope the recent downpour not only replenished the lakes but also contributed considerably to groundwater table.

Authorities monitoring the water bodies in the city and surrounding districts have been receiving inputs that some lakes are brimming, while the others are gaining water inflows considerably.

Hussain Sagar Lake Division officials said the heavy rains have boosted water levels in the water bodies as seen from the comparative data from before and after the rains. The weather department has



forecast more rains in coming days, which could further improve the water situation in the city, an official said.

Meanwhile, fresh inflows into the key drinking water sources—Godavari, Krishna, and the twin reservoirs—have led to a slight colour change in the water supply. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) officials are monitoring the situation closely to ensure the water quality remains safe for consumption.

On average, the water board collects 5,000 water samples from different sources during water supply timings and tests them daily in the Quality, Assurance, and Testing Lab.

If consumers receive slightly muddy water, they can register complaints by calling 155313. The officers will attend to these complaints on a war footing and resolve the issue, a senior HMWSSB official added.
