The traditional Vedic rain-invoking ritual Varuna Japam will be organised by the management of the Chilkur Balaji temple from 8.30 am to 11 am on Tuesday, July 21, at Gandipet Lake.
The ritual will be performed at the Osmansagar (Gandipet Lake) water reservoir located near the temple on the outskirts of Hyderabad. Vedic pandits and temple priests, led by C S
Lakshmi Narasimhan, will stand in waist-deep water while performing the prayers.
The ritwiks (priests) led by Dr V Srirama Ghanapati of Vedabhavanam will continuously recite the Varuna Japam from the Taittiriya Samhita of the Vedas, typically chanting the prayers 108 times to appease Chilkur Balaji to ordain Varuna (the Hindu God of water and oceans) and Lord Indra.
