To curb drug menace in the State, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao will hold a high-level meeting with the police and excise officials at Pragati Bhavan on Wednesday, to devise a strong action plan. The meeting has been convened following a request from the legislators during the recent Assembly session, to keep tabs on the drug trafficking in the wake of increasing cases of drug mafia across the country.

The meeting will be attended by Home Minister Mohd Mahmood Ali, Excise Minister V Srinivas Goud, Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar, Principal Secretaries of Home and Excise departments, DGP M Mahender Reddy, top officials of police and excise departments including heads of law and order, intelligence, State Narcotics Special Task Force and others.

officials have been directed to come up with comprehensive reports on the prevailing situation in their respective districts and the steps being taken.

After the formation of Telangana State, the State government modernised the police department and took all necessary steps to ensure the effective maintenance of law and order. The authorities are strictly enforcing ban on gudumba (illicit liquor) and gambling clubs. However, the Chief Minister has decided to convene the meeting with the top officials of police and excise departments amidst reports of stray incidents of gudumba and gambling clubs, to nip them in the bud. 

The meeting will also formulate an action plan to make Telangana a drug-free State with the aim of ensuring that the young generation do not fall prey to drugs.
