Welfare programmes for the poor and needy, apart from increasing State revenue to run such programmes, has been Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s mandate to officials and Ministers right from the day Telangana was born, Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao said here on Friday.

The State government is extending all support to the people during the Covid-19 pandemic and has offered immediate relief to families that were affected due to the recent rains, he said, pointing out that six years ago, when Telangana was formed, there were many apprehensions among people, especially regarding development and law and order.

Dispelling all those fears, the Chief Minister is striving to make Telangana the top State on all counts in the country, he said.

In the past, when there was uninterrupted power supply in the State, it used to be news but now power cuts make news. Same is the case with drinking water supply, he said.

“As a progressive and developing State, all we want from the people is continued support and blessings,” Rao said after inaugurating a sports complex at Sanathnagar. The Minister inaugurated various development works, including sports complex, library apart from

laying the foundation stone for a theme park at Nehru Park, to be built at a cost of Rs 19 crore.

Animal Husbandry Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav, who represents Sanathnagar constituency, said he had worked as a Minister for five terms with different governments but none could match the vision and speed of the TRS government.

In the past, for sanctioning Rs 5 lakh for digging two borewells in the constituency, several meetings used to be conducted. But after the TRS government assumed power, nearly Rs 800 crore development works had already been sanctioned for Sanathnagar constituency alone, he said amidst whistles and cheers from the crowd.

The Congress government had sold land meant for a sports complex at Sanathnagar to the Provident Fund office. GHMC had allocated another land for the office and today a multipurpose sports complex had become a reality here due to the support extended by Minister KT Rama Rao, he said.

“Past governments focused on the welfare of their own party members, family and relatives. TRS chief K Chandrashekhar Rao says people are our bosses. That’s the difference between the past governments and the TRS government,” Yadav added.
