The final phase of Telangana’s municipal election process on Tuesday was marked by the postponement of the election of chairpersons and vice-chairpersons in three municipalities of Kyathanpalli, Khanapur and Ibrahimpatnam, and widespread misuse of power and official machinery and selective enforcement of rules by the Congress government.
With no formal explanation from the authorities on next schedule, the repeated deferments have triggered political
controversy and sharp allegations from the opposition BRS against the ruling Congress. Local officials cited a lack of quorum and law and order concerns as reasons for the postponement.
A senior State Election Commission (SEC) official said a fresh notification would be issued but declined to specify a timeline. “At this point of time, we cannot reveal when the notification would be issued. It may be in a couple of days or even more,” the official said.
