The Chaderghat Police on Tuesday arrested Mohammed Abdul Quddus (61), a habitual offender, for his alleged involvement in systematic extortion, forgery, criminal conspiracy, and land-grabbing activities across the city.

The accused, a resident of Bandlaguda, used to forge documents to make false ownership claims over properties and extort money through threats of litigation and false criminal cases.

The accused allegedly targeted properties advertised for sale in newspapers or newly constructed buildings, and the investigation revealed that he allegedly extorted around Rs 40 lakh from multiple victims.

One of the victims, Mohammed Najamuddin Shakir of New Malakpet, lodged a complaint alleging that Abdul Quddus falsely claimed ownership of his family's ancestral property

using fabricated Hibanama documents and forged stamp papers after construction commenced with valid GHMC permission.

Hibanama, a legal document under Muslim Sharia law, is used to record the voluntary and unconditional transfer of ownership of a property as a gift used for the transfer of possession.

During the course of the dispute, Raja, acting on behalf of Quddus, allegedly demanded Rs 10 lakh and threatened the complainant with false criminal cases. Subsequently, both accused jointly intimidated the complainant and allegedly threatened to implicate him in false murder cases unless their demands were met.

After absconding to Bengaluru, the accused was traced at his son’s residence in Ganganagar on June 22 and arrested by a special police team and brought back to Hyderabad.
