A woman accused of duping depositors of over Rs 2 crore by promising high returns was arrested by the Central Crime Station (CCS) police on Tuesday after being on the run for a year.

According to police, K. Srilakshmi, a native of Guntur district, was living in a rented house in Nandi Nagar, Banjara Hills Road No. 14, with her husband, Satyaprasad. She developed close friendships with the landlord and neighbours and collected lakhs of rupees from them under the pretext of seeking a loan to pay for

her daughter's education.

Although she had initially promised the victims that she would repay the money, she failed to repay despite repeated requests.

Taking up the case on priority, CCS police launched a manhunt and finally traced and arrested Sri Lakshmi. She was produced in court on Tuesday and remanded to 14-day judicial custody.

Meanwhile, a search has been intensified for her husband, Satya Prasad, who is still at large.
