The Telangana government late on Thursday decided to construct a new Secretariat building based on the recommendations made by the Cabinet sub-committee constituted to study on the demolition of the existing Secretariat complex. Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has gone through the report in detail submitted by the Cabinet sub-committee headed by Roads and Buildings Minister V Prashant Reddy.

Based on the first-hand report prepared by the technical committee, the sub-committee recommended to the government to construct a new Secretariat building. The technical committee has obtained reports from the Director General, Disaster Response and Fire Services and Indian Green Building Council on the status of compliance of fire safety and green building norms in the present Secretariat premises.

Based on the reports

submitted by the above organizations and after detailed inspection of the buildings, the committee explored the feasibility of making existing facilities into befitting Secretariat complex by the modifications/alterations. The committee has opined that it is not possible to modify/alter the existing facilities to create a befitting, iconic and integrated Secretariat complex and strongly recommend that the government may consider construction of a new Secretariat complex complying fire safety, NBC and IGBC norms befitting the stature of Telangana State.

The recommendations of the technical committee were discussed in detail in the Cabinet sub-committee and concurred with the opinion of the technical committee and recommends the construction of the new Secretariat Complex.
