"Bulli Bai" App row, Hyderabad victims demands action

The Hyderabad city police have registered a complaint against the cyber harassment of a city-based journalist and researcher after their details were allegedly posted on the ‘Bulli Bai’ app.

A complaint was received on Monday morning from a city-based victim and the cyber crimes wing took cognizance of the same by launching efforts to track down the persons who created the app, police commissioner of Hyderabad, CV Anand told media.

Similar complaints have been lodged in New Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.

The app posts photos of women from the Muslim community and states that they are up for auction. The same was done by an app named ‘Sulli Deals’ earlier. A picture of the woman, who worked previously with different media



organizations, was posted with other details. The journalist took to Twitter to raise the issue of online harassment through the app. “All it took to snap me out of a Twitter break was learning that someone auctioned my photo,” (sic) she wrote.

Photos of several Muslim women were uploaded on  ‘Bulli Bai’ on open-source platform GitHub, which led to a massive outrage on Twitter.

AIMIM party chief Asaduddin Owaisi urged Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, IT minister K.T. Rama Rao and DGP M Mahendar Reddy to initiate action.

“A symbolic FIR is not enough. The culprits should be arrested. The government should avail the services of CI cell & anti-radicalisation department of the force,” (sic) Owaisi said on Twitter.
