BRS wants CEC Gyanesh Kumar to step down, resign voluntarily

Citing the nationwide debate over the controversial decisions of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) demanded that he step down and resign voluntarily.

Former MP B Vinod Kumar alleged that the Election Commission of India had unfairly deleted votes and said the impact was evident in the recent elections held in Bihar and West Bengal. He was speaking at a press conference here on Saturday.

Commission of India is an independent constitutional body. It is not meant to determine who wins or who loses,” he said.

Vinod Kumar alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s actions had placed the Election Commission in a deplorable situation. He said the established process for appointing the Chief Election Commissioner under Article 324, which involved a committee comprising the Prime Minister, the Leader of the Opposition and the Chief Justice of India, had been dismantled.
