The BRS on Thursday intensified its attack on the Congress following the Supreme Court’s directive to the Telangana Assembly Speaker to act within three months on the disqualification petitions against 10 defected BRS MLAs. Party leaders called the ruling a “slap in the face” of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and questioned the Congress’s commitment to constitutional values.
Senior BRS leader T Harish Rao asked Congress Lok Sabha leader Rahul Gandhi to practise what he preaches. “Will Rahul Gandhi urge the Speaker to act as per the anti-defection law brought by his father Rajiv Gandhi? Or is carrying the Constitution merely an election sham?” he asked.

KP Vivekananda, who is a petitioner in the defection case in the High Court, stated that the Supreme Court has exposed the Revanth Reddy government’s role in encouraging defections. He urged the Speaker to act immediately, without waiting for completion of the three-month deadline.
BRS general secretary Soma Bharat Kumar termed the verdict historic and reminded that the Congress had lost governments in eight States due to its failure to enforce anti-defection laws.
BRS Parliamentary Party deputy leader Vaddiraju Ravichandra welcomed the verdict and said bypolls are now inevitable. “The Speaker must act within three months as per the Court’s order,” he reiterated.
