Workers and leaders of the BRS laid siege to the MRO Office, demanding that the eight acres of Government land in the Cantonment area be protected from encroachers and used for the construction of 6,000 Indiramma houses for the poor.
Leading the dharna, the BRS Membership In-Charge, Dr Manne Krishank, said the land, valued at nearly Rs 800 crore, had been recorded as Government land in official records for several
decades.
The Congress leaders themselves had earlier proposed the construction of 6,000 Indiramma houses on the very same land. However, he alleged that the local Congress legislator, who was bribed with Rs 5 crore, was now allowing encroachment of the land.
The BRS alleged that the land was being encroached upon for the construction of shopping malls and asserted that it would not allow Government land to fall into the hands of encroachers.
