The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has strongly condemned the police detention of Balkonda MLA Vemula Prashanth Reddy at his residence in Velpur, Nizamabad district.

Several BRS leaders and workers were placed under house detention and detained by the police at various places in the Balkonda Assembly constituency of Nizamabad district on Wednesday.

The detained leaders and workers were later shifted to different police stations to

prevent them from participating in the hunger strike along with Vemula Prashanth Reddy.

According to the BRS, Prashanth Reddy was planning to stage a peaceful hunger strike to demand the development of Bheemgal Municipality, integrated market, the construction of a 100-bed government hospital and the restoration of the RTC depot. The BRS party alleged that the Congress government prevented the protest by placing the MLA and other BRS leaders under house arrest.
