BRS accuses Congress of betraying BCs, demands legal sanctity to 42 per cent quota

The main opposition BRS held the Congress responsible for decades of injustice to the backward classes (BCs) since Indian Independence. It accused the Congress government of betraying BCs again by failing to provide legal protection to implement the promised 42 per cent reservations in education, employment and local bodies.

A massive protest organised by Backward Classes People’s Representatives Forum (BCPF) was held at Indira Park, where senior BRS leaders demanded legality to BC quota and warned of public backlash, if the promise remains unfulfilled.

Opposition Leader in the Council S Madhusudana Chari said the Revanth Reddy government was filled with deception and betrayal. He said Congress had failed BCs since Independence, without conducting a caste census, a BC ministry, and participation. “Betraying BCs again in providing reservations, will prove deadly for the Congress,” he warned.

Rajya Sabha MP Vaddiraju Ravichandra accused the Congress of playing politics in the name of ordinances and failing to pressure the Centre for approvals to the BC



reservations Bills passed by the State Legislature. He demanded that local body elections be held only after legally ensuring 42 per cent BC quota.

Former Minister and senior MLA Talasani Srinivas Yadav warned that any attempt to mislead BCs in reservations, will have a ripple effect on the Congress government. He said the recent caste census was flawed, as it excluded 20 lakh urban households, and demanded that the BC quota be added to the Ninth Schedule.

Former Minister Gangula Kamalakar labelled the Congress as having a long history of betrayal. He urged Rahul Gandhi to prove his commitment by ensuring the passage of BC reservations bills in the Parliament.

Former Minister V Srinivas Goud stated that the Congress was showing deliberate indifference. “If BC reservations are not given, we will fight it out in people’s arena,” he declared.

Former Council Chairman K Swamy Goud, MLA Mutha Gopal, former MP Badugula Lingaiah Yadav, former Zilla Parishad chairperson Thula Uma, and several other BRS leaders along with BC leaders also spoke.
