Family members of a 58-year-old farmer, Maddipati Hanumantha Rao from Tanuku, West Godavari, Andhra Pradesh, who was declared as brain dead, have donated his organs to needy patients under the State-run Jeevandan organ donation initiative.
Hanumantha Rao suffered a serious neurological condition and underwent bifrontal decompressive craniectomy on September 14. Immediately his family members shifted him to a
private hospital in Hyderabad for emergency treatment.
With his health not improving, the attending team of doctors declared him as brain dead on Thursday, September 17.
The brain dead farmer’s wife and son, Maddipati Suvarchala and Lalitha Shankar made the decision to donate his kidneys (02), liver (01) and corneas (02) helping three patients in need, Jeevandan in a statement on Friday said.
