Boating activities on the Hussain Sagar are all set to sail onto a new level, with the Telangana State Tourism Development Corporation (TSTDC) drawing out plans to offer much more for water sports and travel enthusiasts in the city. The first among these plans are the launch of a deluxe boat and a high speed boat, most likely in a couple of days.

The boats, which were procured from Pune, are having trial runs as of now. These apart, TSTDC is also planning to introduce a cruiser and a 70-seater boat to cater to the needs of tourists.

According to TSTDC, the 35-seater deluxe boat, which has been procured at a cost of Rs 30 lakh, can be hired by tourists for parties and celebrations. The speedboat, costing Rs 15 lakh, can accommodate 10 passengers, unlike the existing ones which can take only four.

TSTDC Managing Director B Manohar said boating facilities on the popular Hussain Sagar were being expanded to cater to the increasing demand from tourists. “We are introducing new boats whenever required. Last year, American boats were launched in the lake,” he said, adding that tenders were floated for the introduction of one cruiser and a 70-seat boat as well. These were expected to begin operations in about four

months.

Boating in Hussain Sagar, which started in the late 1980s, currently has a network of five speedboats, three deluxe boats and two cruisers which operate on the lake every day. Apart from this, the lake attracts several water sports enthusiasts for sailing and so on.

At present, over 10,000 tourists go for boating in the lake on the weekends and on holidays, while around 3,000-5,000 avail the facility during weekdays.

Speed boats
The modern speed boats are well maintained and equipped with safety parameters like life jackets and lifebuoys. Cruising on a speedboat on the Hussain Sagar is a thrilling experience. These boats can be hired and boarded from the Lumbini Park side by paying Rs 350 per trip (Four persons).

Regular boats
One can enjoy the placid waters of the Hussain Sagar on regular boats and paddle boats as well. Tourists are spotted more during evenings for enjoying a fun ride. Cruises come at Rs110 per head. The Department of Tourism also offers a cruiser facility for corporate bookings, weddings and other occasions.
