With the start of ‘Rabi al-Awwal,’ the third month of the Hijri calendar, hectic religious and social activities have begun in the old city of Hyderabad. The month holds significance as Prophet Mohammed was born on the 12th day of Rabi al-Awwal.

Community leaders and religious heads, for the past decade, have encouraged the practice of donating blood during this month for children affected by thalassemia. Keeping the practice alive, several blood donation camps are lined up in the city from Sunday at different places.

A mega blood donation camp is being organised at Bin Trif Function Hall, Engine Bowli crossroads, Falaknuma, by Rahmath from 7 am to 6 pm on Sunday. Another camp is being organized by GNRF at Nafa Function Hall, Teegala Kunta, in the old city on Sunday. The blood donated at the camp will be provided to thalassemia patients.

Colony. At Nacharam, a blood donation camp will be organised at Baba Palace Function Hall, Nacharam Uppal, by the committee of Masjid Muhammadi on Sunday.

On September 5, blood donation camps are planned by FOCUS and Tanzeem Irshad ul Muslimeen at the Asafia Library, Afzalgunj, and Eidgah Balamrai, Secunderabad.

Maulana Ahsan Al Hamoomi, khateeb of Shahi Masjid Bagh e Aam, urged people to come forward and donate blood for those who need it regularly.

Meanwhile, religious scholars appealed to the community to celebrate Milad un Nabi in a sober manner and not disturb the public. Maulana Hafiz Rizwan Qureshi, khateeb of Mecca Masjid, appealed to youngsters to stay away from creating nuisance on the roads during processions.

“Avoid driving rashly on the roads and do not create problems for others. There are constructive ways of engaging in the celebrations. People should spend more time in prayers or in helping others,” he advised.
