The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leadership is struggling to find competent candidates to field in the municipal elections across the erstwhile Medak district. Though the State Election Commission released the notification on Tuesday, not many leaders were knocking on the doors of the party office seeking tickets.
There are 20 municipalities in the erstwhile Medak district, of which five fall in the Patancheru Assembly segment. Leave alone the prospects of
winning any of these 20 municipalities, the saffron party has been unable to find suitable candidates to contest the civic polls.
Though the BJP had won the Medak MP seat and the graduate MLC seat, party workers were of the view that MP M Raghunandan Rao and MLC C Anji Reddy failed to strengthen the party base, which was reflected in the gram panchayat elections. BJP supported candidates won a negligible number of panchayats in the Medak district.
